Our first launch morning went the way launch mornings are supposed to go. The store opened at 9 AM. The reserve list got their email. The first visitors arrived.
Then our lab documentation came back, and one line stopped everything: a preservative in the formula is restricted for leave-on skincare. Not a grey area. Not borderline. Not something we were willing to put on your skin.
Here is the part nobody says out loud: most brands would have shipped it anyway. The inventory was paid for, the rule is rarely enforced at small scale, and the fine — if it ever came — would cost less than the stock. That is the actual math, and the industry runs on it.
